detail a day #90

We sleep in, folded over each other
in warmth that builds as the sun rises,
washing our room in blue, then white.
The animals curl beside us, breathing gently.

We move through the day softly,
laughing at what makes us laugh,
laughing at each other laughing.

Your wild twisting hair, your soft shirt,
you singing along to songs we've always loved together,
the way i feel your voice smooth in my chest.
We stretch and sprawl.

We spend our New Year's Eve in,
Chinese take out, rented films, champagne.
Romantic that i am, i wait
to kiss you at midnight
when it alights, a stillness
over us.

prayer

"Be that empty." --Rumi

what have i made?

sarasvati must want to skin me.
me in my skirt
with my runes carved in the headboard.

that man, half-lit,
bowing to his instrument:
make me that hollow.

i bite my lip
i bow my head
i nod along.

goddess of song,
wring me out.
sing me raw.

Pages in strange languages
splayed open like dissections:
